Samurai Shodown V, known as Samurai Spirits Zero in Japan, is the eighth game Samurai Shodown/Samurai Spirits of SNK fighting game series. It was one of the last games ever to be published on the Neo Geo. The original Japanese version of the game also has a lot of dialogue in the single player mode, but all those scenes are simply left out of the game when the language is set to English. The domestic version of the Xbox release restores these scenes and translates them into English. The game was also ported to the PlayStation 2, which was released in Japan and Europe.
Following the revitalization of SNK after its collapse in 2001, the company decided it would be appropriate to create another game in the big missing part series Samurai Shodown. As part of its reorganization, development rights have been given to the relatively unknown Yuki Company, which had mainly only created simulation and board games 2000 for simple series of PlayStation 2 in Japan, and had no experience in the development of fighting games.
Despite this, SNK managed to raise excitement by announcing that Nobuhiro Watsuki, the creator and author of the manga and anime Rurouni Kenshin, was contracted to design some new characters, and they were released gradually through silhouettes on the official website, and showing gradually official artwork. Word finally knew the game was going to be a true prequel to the rest of the series, taking place two years before the first game Samurai Shodown. This created its own problems with the line of time series.
The gameplay is up slightly from Samurai Shodown IV, and the button layout was changed again.

The system Slash/Bust recent games has been removed, and each character had now only one version, although in several cases the Bust mode was replaced by a new character of very similar setup.
The most important addition to the fighting system is the button “defense”. This button, depending on the position of the joystick allows the duck player, quickly jump back, quickly jump forward or roll. This gives you more tactical possibilities and balances the player with the most evasive movements, instead of loading the buttons with the attacks. Clearly experience Yuki strategy game shown in the new fighting system. It brought back from the original two games of the SS, is the combination of the A and B buttons to create a fierce attack bar instead of having its own button, like the last two games of the SS. The C button is again a challenge.
